Claire Elise Boucher (/bu:'SeI/ boo-SHAY born on March 17 the 17th of March, 1988), known professionally as Grimes, is a Canadian musician, singer, writer, and record producer. Her first work has been described as extending beyond "lo-fi R&B" to futuristic dance-pop. She has also incorporated influence from electronic music, hip-hop, and rock. Her songs often incorporate science-fiction and feminist themes within her lyrics. The band has released five albums. She was raised and born in Vancouver (later moving in Montreal), Grimes began making music on her own during the latter half of 2000 with two albums released, Geidi Primes as well as Halfaxa In 2010, she released her first album on Arbutus Records. She subsequently signed with 4AD and gained notoriety after the release of her third studio album, Visions which came out in the year 2012. Visions contains the two singles "Genesis" and "Oblivion" and won the Canadian music industry Juno Award for Electronic Album of the year. Art Angels, her fourth studio album, was released in 2015. Many publications called it the best album. In 2020, she dropped Miss Anthropocene (her fifth studio album). In addition to the music industry, Grimes had a voice role in the 2020 online action-role-playing video game Cyberpunk 2077 and is a judge on the music competition game show Alter Ego.
